3 March 2016 …Controversial plans to build a noisy concrete works within earshot of Willen Hospice have been delayed while heritage experts consider Listing a nearby building – a 1970’s sewage plant. The Cotton Valley treatment plant, at Pineham, is a significant piece of Modernist architecture set in a lush landscape – in other words – classic Milton Keynes! MK Forum put in the surprise bid to Historic England to List the building last week. They told the local paper, the Citizen (left), that the move is far from frivolous adding that “After all, it is the only building that everyone in MK interacts with on a daily basis!”
If the building is Listed before MK Council considers the planning application again it might increase the chances of a refusal. But for now the planning department is still recommending approval of the controversial concrete works. There are lots of ‘ifs’ and ‘buts’ in the planning process.
